Thieves disguised as Telkom employees

JAKARTA (JP): Pondok Aren police detectives are still searching for two people who dressed up as employees of state- owned telecommunications company PT Telkom and robbed a house in the State Secretariat housing complex in Tangerang on Wednesday evening.

The thieves got away with gold jewelry and cash worth Rp 6 million (US$750), a police officer said on Thursday.

First Sergeant Haryadi of Pondok Aren police subprecinct said that the case was still under investigation.

"Let's see what will happen next. We are still investigating," Haryadi told The Jakarta Post over the phone.

Police reports said at least two suspects entered the house of Ariel Agung, 35, and introduced themselves as PT Telkom employees.

Upon entering the house, one person held a knife against the throat of Ariel, while another tied up Ariel's wife and house- maid, and ransacked the house.

Separately, the West Jakarta police are also searching four people, who robbed a house on Jl. Takawal VI in Tomang subdistrict and took a 14-inch TV set and jewelry worth Rp 100 million on Wednesday afternoon.

Police reports said the suspects broke into and entered the house of 40-year-old Edward Simorangkir.

While one held a small knife to Edward's throat, the others ransacked his home. (ylt)
