Thieves break into immigration office
BATAM, Riau: Police have arrested six people who were believed
to be members of a syndicate which last month broke into the
Batam Immigration Office and made off with a safe.
Two other gang members are still at large, Antara reported.
West Riau Police Chief Bagus Harrisanjaya said the safe
contained a number of passports, some cash and a gun.
The Colt .32 firearm had been retrieved from one of the
suspects, complete with its 12 bullets, indicating that it had
not been fired, Bagus said.
The syndicate appeared to be professional and targeted mostly
safes, he said, adding that some of the members confessed to
taking part in thefts at a number of luxury houses. (emb)
