Thief Caught Stealing Motorcycle in East Jakarta Points Gun at Resident
A case of motorcycle theft occurred on Jalan Balai Rakyat, Kramat Jati District, East Jakarta. The thief brandished a handgun at the homeowner during the incident.
“There were two people; when I saw the motorcycle being taken, I shouted for help. However, the perpetrator immediately pulled out a pistol and pointed it at me,” said the homeowner, Riska (32), in Kramat Jati, as reported by Antara on Tuesday (2/6/2026).
Riska recounted that the incident took place on Sunday (31/5) as she was preparing for the Zuhr prayer. She has since reported the case to the Kramat Jati Police Sub-district.
She noted that the perpetrators arrived on a single motorcycle. She expressed hope that the police could quickly identify and apprehend the suspects before they commit similar crimes elsewhere.
“I have filed a report with the Kramat Jati Police. The perpetrators were wearing masks, jackets, and helmets, so their faces were not clearly visible. The important thing is that no one was injured,” Rivel said.
CCTV footage from the surrounding area shows the two suspects monitoring the situation at the crime scene beforehand. Once they deemed the area safe and quiet from resident activity, one of the suspects, believed to be the executor, approached the black motorcycle parked in the victim’s yard.
The theft was swift and premeditated. The perpetrator broke the motorcycle’s ignition and moved the vehicle from the house towards the front gate.
Upon witnessing the crime, the homeowner shouted for help from neighbours. One of the perpetrators then produced a firearm and pointed it at the victim to intimidate them and prevent any resistance.
Riska admitted to being in shock due to the threat. She noted that the perpetrators appeared very bold and showed no fear despite being caught in the act.
“I was terrified because the perpetrator pointed the pistol directly at me. I eventually retreated into the house to ensure my safety,” Riska said.
No injuries or fatalities were reported. However, the victim suffered the loss of one motorcycle, which was driven away by the suspects.
According to Riska, this is not the first time a motorcycle theft has occurred in her neighbourhood. She has requested increased security patrols and decisive action from the police against increasingly daring street criminals.
