Thick Smoke Causes Alarm at PIM, Traced to Fire at Misuji 9+ Restaurant
Jakarta, VIVA – A fire broke out at the Misuji 9+ Restaurant in the Street Gallery section of Pondok Indah Mall (PIM), Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, on the evening of Monday, 16 February 2026.
Fortunately, staff were quick to extinguish the blaze using a portable fire extinguisher (APAR), preventing the fire from spreading. The incident was confirmed by the Kebayoran Lama Police Sector Chief, Police Commissioner Muhammad Kukuh Islami.
“It was only a small fire,” he said when contacted on Monday, 16 February 2026.
Upon investigation, the fire originated from an electric stove at the restaurant which had short-circuited. The incident occurred at approximately 19:05 Western Indonesian Time. He acknowledged that there had been a plume of smoke inside the mall.
However, the smoke was caused by the discharge from the fire extinguisher. He noted that the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-agency (Sudin Gulkarmat Jaksel) did not make it to the scene as the fire had already been put out.
“It was just one table stove that caught fire,” he said.
Kukuh added that restaurant guests briefly evacuated at the time of the incident but returned shortly after, as the event was over quickly.
