They Deliver Messages of Peace to the World on Easter Day
Several national and international figures have conveyed messages of peace during the Easter celebrations in 2026. This moment is interpreted as a call to strengthen brotherhood, halt conflicts, and bring peace to all humanity.
Several religious leaders and public figures have delivered Easter reflections highlighting the importance of unity amid a global situation still overshadowed by conflicts, particularly in the Middle East region.
Prabowo Hopes Easter Brings Peace
President Prabowo Subianto extended Easter greetings to Christians in Indonesia. He hopes the Easter moment can bring peace and goodness to all parties.
“Happy Easter to our Christian brothers and sisters,” said Prabowo via his official X account on Sunday (5/4/2026).
The greeting was posted along with a poster containing the words ‘Happy Easter to our Christian brothers and sisters’. Prabowo hopes the Easter moment brings peace as well as goodness for all.
“May Easter bring peace and goodness to us all,” he stated.
Megawati: Easter is the Path of Liberation from Darkness
General Chair of PDI Perjuangan Megawati Soekarnoputri also delivered an Easter message emphasising its spiritual and humanitarian significance. She invited Christians to internalise Easter as a moment of sacrifice and love for others.
“Every time we commemorate Easter, we are reminded of the boundless outpouring of love, in the spirit of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ’s Way of the Cross,” said Megawati on Sunday (5/4/2026).
She emphasised the meaning of Easter as a spiritual transformation. “Easter is the path of liberation that frees humanity from darkness, becoming light and love,” she stated.
Megawati also prayed for all Indonesian people to always live in peace and brotherhood. “Once again, Happy Easter and may God’s grace always accompany our beloved Indonesian nation. Peace and prosperity greetings to us all, Shalom,” she added.
Cardinal Suharyo Emphasises World Peace
Archbishop of Jakarta Archdiocese Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo affirmed that the Catholic Church places world peace as a top priority amid global conflicts. This message aligns with the direction of Pope Leo XIV’s leadership, who from the outset has called for peace.
“That means he is truly serious about stating that his tenure as Pope will strive for peace,” said Cardinal Suharyo after leading the Pontifical Easter Mass at the Cathedral Church, as reported by Antara on Sunday (5/4/2026).
He also highlighted the Pope’s firm stance on war.
“Even, with very harsh words regarding war, he said that the prayers of leaders who condone war will not be heard by God. Very harsh words,” he said.
According to him, war only brings adverse impacts to the world and humanity. “What exists are very bad consequences, not only for the world, for the earth, but for humanity,” he added.
Pope Leo XIV Calls for a Peaceful and United World
Pope Leo XIV called for a message of world peace in his first Easter celebration as leader of the Catholic faithful. In his Easter Vigil speech, he invited the world to build unity amid conflicts still occurring in various regions.
He called for the creation of “a new world full of peace and unity” and condemned divisions caused by “war, injustice, and the isolation of nations and countries”, as reported by AFP.
The Pope also repeatedly called for peace in the Middle East and urged world leaders to seek a way out of the conflict. This year’s Easter celebrations took place in a more sombre atmosphere due to the war affecting the lives of Christians in Jerusalem and Lebanon.
