Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Regent of the Thousand Islands, Muhammad Fadjar Churniawan, mentioned three main challenges in the island district: clean water, sea transportation, and energy resilience.

“The Thousand Islands have great territorial potential, but are currently facing these three main challenges,” he said during the Development Planning Deliberation (Musrenbang) for the Jakarta Province Regional Government Work Plan (RKPD) for 2027 in Jakarta on Thursday.

The need for clean water is very urgent because production capacity is still very limited and unable to meet the high daily volume of residents’ needs.

Meanwhile, for sea transportation, it is still constrained by the sea transportation route system and suboptimal service quality.

“We need more modern connectivity that is integrated between islands,” said Fadjar.

As for the energy resilience issue, the electricity network in the Thousand Islands is still single-track and heavily dependent on underwater cable networks that are prone to disruptions.

“Additionally, our fuel oil supply still relies on supplies from the mainland,” he said.

Through this Musrenbang, his side is pushing several priority proposals to be followed up immediately with support from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov).

For the Water Resources Agency, his side is advocating for the comprehensive development of clean water supply systems on each island, directed towards the One Island One System concept.

His side also proposed improvements to sea transportation services to the Transportation Agency, including the creation of corridor and feeder routes similar to those on land, as well as the preparation of a legal umbrella that accommodates sea transportation routes in the Thousand Islands.

For transmigration and energy needs, his side is promoting the development of New and Renewable Energy (EBT) through the construction of Solar Power Plants and the building of Fuel Filling Stations for Ships, to the Manpower Agency.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Thousand Islands Sub-District Development Planning Agency, Achmad Ichsan Tasik, stated that the Thousand Islands Musrenbang has accommodated a total of 118 community proposals, with details of 31 proposals to be accommodated in 2026 and 63 proposals to be accommodated in the 2027 Regional Government Work Plan (RKPD), while 24 proposals cannot yet be accommodated.
