These Are the 3 Student Demands Immediately Followed Up by Dasco and the DPR

An audience between student representatives and the leadership of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) at the DPR RI Building in Central Jakarta on Friday, 19 June 2026, resulted in several concrete follow-ups to the demands conveyed by the protest participants. The meeting, which lasted about an hour and a half, was attended by student representatives from Trisakti University, Esa Unggul University, Mercu Buana University, and the Islamic Students’ Association (HMI). Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad affirmed that all student aspirations had been received and would be acted upon.

According to Dasco, several student demands were immediately communicated to government officials via telephone during the audience, including to Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia and Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Nanik S. Deyang. “God willing, we will continue and follow up on them,” Dasco said after the meeting.

Following the audience, DPR RI leaders represented by Deputy Speaker Saan Mustopa, along with Dasco and Chairman of Commission III Habiburokhman, delivered the meeting’s outcomes to the crowd of protestors from atop a command vehicle.

One of the main points of concern for the students was the legal status of 16 Trisakti University students who had previously been named suspects in a demonstration commemorating the 27th anniversary of the Trisakti Tragedy in front of Jakarta City Hall. Saan Mustopa stated that the DPR had communicated with relevant parties to resolve the issue. He said the suspect status for the 16 students is targeted to be revoked within the next week. “Regarding the 16 Trisakti students, whose status is still as suspects but have not been processed, the Chairman of Commission III has communicated. Within one week, God willing, the suspect status of those 16 Trisakti students will be revoked,” Saan said.

Previously, the Metro Jaya Regional Police named 16 students as suspects after the demonstration in front of Jakarta City Hall ended in unrest. They were charged with several articles in the Criminal Code (KUHP), ranging from alleged incitement, joint violence, assault, to resisting officers. Additionally, the DPR also conveyed developments regarding two Mercu Buana University students who were arrested before the demonstration in front of the DPR took place.
