These 5 Regions Dominate Indonesia's Rice Stocks, Bulog Continues to Build Reserves
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Head of Institutional Relations Division at Perum Bulog, Epi Sulandari, revealed that the government’s rice stock currently stands at 4.647 million tonnes. This government rice reserve (CBP) has now been distributed to various regions across Indonesia.
In addition to the CBP, Bulog also holds 21,582 tonnes of commercial rice. Thus, the total volume of rice controlled by Bulog is currently 4.668 million tonnes.
“The government rice reserve has been distributed throughout Indonesia. This includes to Region III, regions where rice prices are still rising significantly. Also to DTPK areas (Remote, Border, and Archipelagic Regions) mentioned earlier by the Deputy,” she said during the Regional Inflation Control Coordination Meeting for 2026, broadcast on the Ministry of Home Affairs’ YouTube channel on Monday (13/4/2026).
“We have conveyed this to all Bulog warehouses across Indonesia. Including the cooking oil stock of 104,660 kilolitres. This will be used for both food assistance needs and for price stabilisation in SP2KP markets (Basic Needs Market Monitoring System),” she added.
From these figures, there are five Bulog regional offices that control the largest CBP.
Namely, East Java with a stock of 1,117,548 tonnes, South Sulawesi and West Sulawesi with 801,855 tonnes, West Java with 740,177 tonnes, followed by Central Java and Lampung with CBP stocks reaching 342,519 tonnes and 291,567 tonnes.
It was stated that these stocks are ready to be distributed.
Regarding rice procurement, she continued, for 2026 up to now, it has reached the equivalent of 1.8 million tonnes of rice for PSO (CBP) and 24,000 tonnes equivalent of commercial rice.
Thus, Epi said, the total domestic procurement by Bulog has reached 1.9 million tonnes equivalent of rice.
According to her, this figure is the highest compared to the last six years.
Building Temporary Warehouses
Meanwhile, she continued, the Bulog Board of Directors has met with the Regent of Mahakam Ulu and the Regent of Kutai Barat, East Kalimantan, to discuss areas experiencing high rice price surges.
“We agreed to build temporary warehouses as Bulog branch warehouses in Mahakam Ulu and Kutai Barat, which will later be used as Bulog warehouses. So that the rice will be directly stored there, several tonnes in those areas,” she explained.
“This can be used for SPHP or food assistance. Before the warehouses to be built by Bulog, the 2026 food infrastructure programme can be implemented,” Epi stated.
