US President Donald Trump has accepted a 10-point proposal from Iran as a foundation for further negotiations to end the war. One of the points in the proposal requests that the US withdraw combat troops from the region.

According to Iranian media Tasnim News Agency and the BBC on Wednesday (8/4/2026), Trump stated via his personal social media account that the 10 points could serve as a basis for negotiation.

“We have received the 10-point proposal from Iran and I am confident that this can be a reliable foundation for negotiation,” Trump said.

The proposal includes the withdrawal of US military forces from the region, the lifting of economic sanctions against Iran, payment of compensation for war damages, and allowing Iran to maintain control over Hormuz.

The details of Iran’s 10-point proposal are as follows:

  1. The US must commit, in principle, to guaranteeing non-aggression.

  2. Iran’s sustained control over the Strait of Hormuz.

  3. Iran’s right to uranium enrichment must be recognised.

  4. Lifting of all major sanctions.

  5. Lifting of all secondary sanctions.

  6. Ending all UN Security Council resolutions.

  7. Ending all IAEA Board of Governors resolutions.

  8. Payment of compensation for damages inflicted on Iran.

  9. Withdrawal of US combat troops from the region.

  10. Cessation of war on all fronts, including against the heroic Islamic resistance in Lebanon.

Previously, Donald Trump suspended launching an attack on Iran for two weeks on the condition that Iran opens the Strait of Hormuz. The US has also accepted Iran’s proposal regarding a peace agreement.

“The reason for doing this is that we have met and even exceeded all military objectives, and we are very close to achieving a definitive agreement on long-term peace with Iran, and peace in the Middle East. We have received the 10-point proposal from Iran, and believe that it is an actionable basis for negotiation,” Trump’s statement posted on the White House X account.

According to him, almost all points of past contention have been agreed upon by the US and Iran. Trump is confident that a full agreement will be finalised within two weeks.
