Therion DNA believes drug prevention efforts should not stop at formal education
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The vape user community Therion DNA Indonesia believes that efforts to prevent the misuse of prohibited substances such as narcotics should not stop at formal education.
President of Therion DNA Indonesia, Agung Heri Hartaji, stated that prevention needs to continue in community life through individual awareness and collective responsibility in various environments, including communities.
“The community fully realises that the social environment plays an important role in supporting drug abuse prevention efforts,” said Agung in a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Moreover, he noted that recently public attention to the issue of vape or electronic cigarette misuse has been quite high.
As a form of shared responsibility, Therion DNA Indonesia believes it can take an active role in educating the public to prevent narcotics misuse.
To that end, the community has partnered with the Bekasi Regency Narcotics Agency to conduct urine tests in Bekasi, West Java, on Saturday (25/4).
Agung expressed his hope that such positive activities would build public awareness to mutually support efforts to prevent narcotics misuse.
“This activity is not intended as a claim or specific proof. We view it as part of efforts to build awareness and support early detection through a community-based participatory approach,” he said.
Event coordinator Enggar Dwi Pambudi stated that the activity reflects the community’s internal awareness as an effort to build a healthy and drug-free community environment while preventing the misuse of prohibited substances.
“This activity stems from our awareness as a community to look after each other. Prevention efforts must start from oneself and be carried out voluntarily in respective environments as a form of shared responsibility,” said Enggar.
Representative of the Bekasi Regency Narcotics Agency, Flavianus Aka, also appreciated the steps taken by the community. Such voluntary community initiatives, according to him, are an important part of efforts to prevent the misuse of prohibited substances.
“An awareness- and education-based approach needs to be continuously encouraged across various layers of society,” said Flavianus.
Therion DNA Indonesia initiated the voluntary drug urine tests through the Halalbihalal Vapers with Therion DNA Indonesia event.
The event, held in Wargas, Bekasi, was attended by 50 electronic cigarette consumers who participated voluntarily. The urine tests were conducted as part of educational activities and early detection of potential misuse of prohibited substances.
In addition to the urine tests, the event included educational sessions on the dangers of narcotics misuse and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Through this initiative, the community hopes to support the creation of a more responsible social environment and strengthen the active role of the public in supporting drug abuse prevention efforts through an educational, collaborative, and awareness-based approach.
