There Are 14 Feed Mills in Banten, Provincial Government Targets 52,000 Ton Corn Harvest in 2026
The Banten Provincial Government has stated that there are 14 livestock feed factories operating in the province. The government is targeting a corn harvest of 52,000 tons of dry kernels in 2026. Banten Governor Andra Soni wants Banten to become a self-sufficient region and a major national corn producer. He hopes that corn from Banten can meet the needs of local industries and agriculture. “At least for our own needs,” he said during the Hybrid Corn Planting Movement for the Mekarjaya Farmer Group, Maja Subdistrict, Lebak Regency, on Tuesday (21/4/2026). Additionally, Banten Province must strengthen its agriculture and livestock sectors to supply the needs of the Jakarta agglomeration. Banten’s proximity to the agglomeration area can reduce transportation or logistics costs, thereby enhancing the competitiveness of agricultural and livestock products. “If we become suppliers to the agglomeration area, we are advantaged in terms of distance and logistics costs,” he stated. The Banten Provincial Government will coordinate with regents, mayors, and developers for the utilisation of idle lands. He also expressed thanks to landowners who have permitted their land to be used for agriculture. “Appreciation for the utilisation of idle land for planting corn and other food crops. Thank you to the landowners who have given permission for their land to be used. Thank you to the Banten Police who have inspired us to plant corn,” he added. Meanwhile, Acting Head of the Banten Provincial Agriculture Office, Nasir, mentioned that the local government will continue to increase its national contribution to food security, including in the Banten region. “Not just rice, but also corn. Banten Province is also starting to develop sugarcane,” he explained. According to him, Banten Province currently has 14 livestock feed factories that require 4,000 tons of corn per day. Supported by the Ministry of Agriculture, the Banten Provincial Government, together with farmers and other parties, will develop 9,000 hectares of idle land for corn planting. “The production target we hope for is 52,000 tons of dry corn kernels,” he revealed.
