Theory Classes Alone Are Not Enough! UNM Pushes for Digital Education to Face Industry 5.0
Digital transformation in the education sector is becoming increasingly evident by 2026. Universities are no longer just places for theoretical learning but are transforming into centres for developing skills relevant to industry needs, particularly in facing the Industry 5.0 era.
The head of Universitas Nusa Mandiri (UNM) Jatiwaringin campus, Bryan Givan, emphasised that digital transformation in education is no longer a choice but an urgent necessity so that graduates remain relevant amid rapid industrial changes.
“The campus must move faster than industrial changes. If not, graduates will be left behind and irrelevant to workforce needs,” he stated in a comment quoted on Wednesday (6/5/2026).
According to Bryan, the current learning approach in higher education must become more applicative, adaptive, and technology-based so that students possess competencies truly needed by industry.
“Students need to be accustomed to technology from an early stage. Starting from data usage, programming, to understanding digital business. This will be their main provision for the future,” he added.
As a Digital Business Campus, UNM continues to strengthen educational transformation through the implementation of technology-based learning systems, curricula integrated with industry needs, and the development of an academic ecosystem that balances digital and business competencies.
Along with the development of the Industry 5.0 concept, which emphasises collaboration between humans and technology, the workforce now requires talents who not only master technology but also possess critical thinking, creativity, communication, and high adaptability.
Bryan added that collaboration between campuses and industry is a key element in ensuring graduates are ready to face an ever-changing world of work.
“The campus must become a bridge between the academic world and the world of work. Through internships, industry projects, to competency certifications, students can gain real experience before graduating,” he explained.
Through this approach, UNM as a Digital Business Campus continues to affirm its commitment to producing superior, adaptive graduates ready to compete in the global digital transformation era.
Digital education transformation is now the main foundation for building superior human resources for the future. With the support of adaptive educational institutions, students are expected to become professional talents ready to address the challenges of Industry 5.0.
