The theme and logo for the 55th Archiving Day convey a message about the importance of archives in supporting the nation’s future. Through this commemoration, ANRI also invites the public to better understand the role of archiving in government governance and the preservation of the nation’s collective memory.
Theme and Its Meaning
Referring to Circular Letter No. 4 of 2026 from the Head of the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia regarding the Commemoration of the 55th Archiving Day in 2026, the theme adopted this year is:
- “Empowering the Future: Archiving to Empower the Future Towards Golden Indonesia 2045”.
ANRI explains that the theme carries the meaning that archives are not merely records of the past, but strategic resources with the power to shape, guide, and empower the nation’s future. Archives are also viewed as guardians of collective memory that ensure the authenticity of information, continuity of values, and accountability in state administration.
In the context of national development and digital transformation, authentically, reliably, and integrally managed archives become an important foundation in decision-making, policy formulation, and public service innovation. ANRI also emphasises that the word “empowering” indicates that archives possess knowledge power and sustainability for the government, society, and young generation to understand the past and design a better future.
In addition, from the publication perspective, the visualisation of the theme is expected to reflect a more modern and adaptive ANRI and archiving community to the developments of the times.
Logo and Its Philosophy
Meanwhile, the logo for the 55th Archiving Day depicts archives as strategic resources supporting the achievement of the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision. This philosophy is represented through arrows pointing forward or to the right as symbols of the future and progress.
The logo design also forms the number 55 as a representation of the age of the Archiving Day commemoration in 2026. This visual becomes a symbol of the long journey of national archiving administration in Indonesia.
About Archiving Day
It should be noted that 18 May is designated as Archiving Day based on Decision No. OT.00/02/2005 of the Head of the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia. Since first commemorated in 2005, Archiving Day has become an important annual agenda for archiving entities in Indonesia.
According to ANRI, the Archiving Day commemoration aims to foster and increase public awareness of the importance of archives in supporting community life, nationhood, and statehood. Amid the increasingly dynamic flow of information, archive management is considered important to maintain government continuity and support public information openness.
The peak of the 55th Archiving Day commemoration in 2026 will be held online through the YouTube channel of the National Archives of RI and offline at the Noerhadi Magetsari Multipurpose Room, National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia, Jalan Ampera Raya No. 7, Cilandak Timur, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta. The series of commemoration activities are scheduled to take place from 18 to 20 May 2026.
