Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Do not expect to enjoy a good work-life balance if you work at Uber. Because you are still expected to work hard, even on weekends.

In a podcast, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi revealed this. He also said that he sends emails on weekends and expects them to be answered promptly.

“We are very demanding. If you don’t perform well, we will let you know, and if you don’t improve, we will fire you,” he said, as quoted by Entrepreneur, Thursday (February 26, 2026).

He explained that hard work is an important skill that young people need to develop. Hard work requires focusing on something, not giving up easily when faced with failure, and having strong determination.

Khosrowshahi admitted that working at Uber is very difficult. However, on the other hand, he believes that the job provides great power and influence.

However, the hard work he refers to does not mean that employees cannot balance their time. Employees can still make time for their families in between their busy schedules, and he does the same.

However, there will be compromises in daily life. For example, if he has dinner at 8 pm, he will check his email at 8:30 pm, and if he wakes up at 5:30 am, he will do the same.

Working at Uber is not just about work. Khosrowshahi said that employees can also have fun, as long as they work hard.

“But don’t come here if you want to relax,” he said.
