The value of the rupiah
The value of the rupiah
As Indonesia continues to adopt a free foreign exchange system
in which the rupiah is traded abroad, the inescapable consequence
is that the value of our national currency will always be
influenced by prevailing market sentiment. Market sentiment, in
turn, is determined to a large extent by the government's part in
the process of sentiment formation.
Thus, the government should always strive to send out signals
that are positive and acceptable to market players if we want the
value of the rupiah to be stable. These should include
information about the scenario that is being worked out regarding
the question of our national leadership, what our concept of good
and clean governance is and how we are to go about establishing a
consistent law enforcement system that can guarantee that
appropriate legal measures will be taken against offenders,
without regard to person.
