Amid the complex challenges of public nutrition, the role of dietitians or nutritionists now demands moving beyond laboratory and academic spaces. A modern nutritionist must bridge rigid science with effective, adaptive health education for the public.

Recognising this urgency, the Faculty of Medicine and Nutrition at IPB University has formally established a strategic collaboration with Danone Indonesia through its Healthcare Nutrition (HN) unit. The synergy is realised through a Professional Practice Internship Programme for students of Nutritionist Profession Education programmes throughout 2026.

The collaboration aims to align the education curriculum with the realities of industry needs and health challenges in the field. Students will not only study theory but will take part directly in research, health screening programmes, and the development of science-based educational content.

The programme, conducted in several cohorts, includes active student involvement in producing infographics, hosting webinars, and providing nutrition counselling services for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and young children.

Medical Science Director of Danone Indonesia, Dr. dr. Ray Wagiu Basrowi, MKK, stated that strengthening health talent is a pillar of the Danone Impact Journey.

“The increasingly complex public health challenges demand a collaborative, evidence-based approach. We hope this experience will not only broaden students’ perspectives but also strengthen their readiness to become technically competent nutritionists capable of delivering real, impactful solutions,” said Dr. Ray.

Similarly, the Head of the Nutritionist Profession Education Programme at IPB University, Prof. Dr. Ir. Hardinsyah, MS, highlighted the importance of health promotion in the digital era. He stated that the nutritionist of the future must be able to utilise technology platforms to convey health messages accurately and responsibly.

“Going forward, nutritionists will not only operate in health services but also need to actively educate the public through various approaches, including the use of digital platforms,” said Prof. Hardinsyah.

Through this integration of academia and industry practice, Indonesia is expected to develop a cadre of nutritionists who are not only scientifically proficient but also adaptable in translating science into nutrition interventions that are relevant to the wider public.
