The Tycoon Behind Trans Studio Makassar
Trans Studio Makassar (TSM) is one of the largest indoor amusement parks in eastern Indonesia. This recreational venue is renowned as a family tourism destination in Makassar City, featuring various modern rides and entertainment options. Numerous major events are frequently held at this shopping centre. For instance, most recently, on Thursday (14/5/2026), TSM hosted the Sulawesi Youth Festival (SYF) music concert, which featured top national musicians. However, due to the failure of the Makassar Transportation Department and authorities to anticipate the prevalence of illegal parking around TSM, Jalan Metro Tanjung Bunga experienced severe traffic congestion. As information, the owner of TSM Makassar is the conglomerate Chairul Tanjung as part of the Trans Studio retail network. Through CT Corp, Chairul develops the entertainment business line under Trans Entertainment and Property. From here, various Trans Studio amusement park projects were born in several major cities in Indonesia. Trans Studio Makassar itself began operations in 2009 and was once dubbed the largest indoor amusement park in Indonesia at the time. Its location is within the integrated Trans Studio Mall Makassar area in the Tanjung Bunga region, Makassar. The concept of this area combines a shopping centre, hotel, entertainment, and commercial property. Besides Makassar, CT Corp also develops Trans Studio in Bandung, Bali, and Cibubur. Before becoming a conglomerate, Chairul ran various small businesses while still in university, from selling books to opening a medical supplies business. His business then expanded rapidly until establishing the Para Group, which has now transformed into CT Corp. This business group oversees several major companies such as Bank Mega in the financial sector, Trans TV and Trans7 in the media sector, and retail networks like Transmart. Chairul Tanjung also served as Coordinating Minister for the Economy during President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s administration in 2014.
