The Tradition of Distributing Nasi Jangkrik in Kudus

Residents queued to receive nasi jangkrik during the distribution at the Sunan Kudus tomb and Menara Kudus Mosque complex in Kudus, Central Java, on Thursday (25/6/2026). The nasi jangkrik distribution was held at the peak of the buka luwur ceremony for the Sunan Kudus tomb on 10 Muharram, with around 34,000 packets of rice wrapped in teak leaves and served with goat and buffalo meat distributed as an expression of gratitude to God and the practice of Islamic teachings on fostering a spirit of sharing with others.
