REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BOGOR – Residents lit firecrackers during the Adu Kuluwung event, or traditional cannon, in Sukaresmi Village, Sukamakmur Subdistrict, Bogor Regency, West Java, on Sunday (29/3/2026). The Adu Kuluwung tradition is held in two villages, namely Sukaresmi Village and Sukadamai Village, routinely taking place every week after Eid al-Fitr. Several residents from the two villages compete with each other through the sound of explosions from the reaction of carbide powder, creating a characteristic sound that serves as the main attraction and hallmark of the Adu Kuluwung tradition. This activity, which has become a hereditary tradition, is hoped to serve as a forum for maintaining social ties while strengthening social relations among residents. Through the preservation of the Adu Kuluwung tradition, the people of Sukamakmur show their commitment to safeguarding local cultural identity. This tradition is expected to continue to be passed down to the younger generation as part of Indonesia’s cultural wealth that deserves to be proud of.
