The Trade Ministry says Indonesian creative products are in demand in global markets
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) says Indonesian creative products, ranging from crafts to Nusantara textiles, have potential and are in demand in global markets.
“Indonesian creative products have great potential in the global market,” said Ari Satria, Director of Export Development for Services and Creative Products at Kemendag, during an interactive discussion titled ‘Weaving Stories: Dialog Artisan & Designer’ at Alun Alun Indonesia, Jakarta, on Thursday.
“In the period January to March 2026, the performance was positive, with main markets in the United States, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore and extending to Europe,” he added.
Furthermore, Ari said this shows that the global market remains very receptive to design- and lifestyle-based products and craftsmanship.
“Moreover, current global trends are increasingly oriented toward sustainable, natural-material, handmade products with strong cultural storytelling,” he said.
These creative products with high cultural value and storytelling, Ari added, include Nusantara weaving works such as woven fabrics and weaving crafts.
The Ministry is also committed to providing broader access, especially for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the creative sector, through programmes such as design clinics, design mentoring, and meetings between artisans and professional designers to assist product development, packaging, visual branding, and readiness for export markets.
One example is Rumah Tenun Magelang (Rutema), which already has advantages in expanding markets.
“We hope these activities can strengthen collaboration between artists, designers, entrepreneurs and the public in developing modern Nusantara textiles that remain rooted in our nation’s culture,” said Ari.
“We hope more Indonesian MSMEs will dare to innovate and go global, and that these activities will open spaces for collaboration and further strengthen the position of Indonesian creative products in the global market,” he added.
