The Theft of Trailer Truck Batteries Said to Disrupt Logistics Distribution
The head of Criminal Investigation at the Tanjung Priok Port Police Resort, AKP Ngurah Pandu Prabawa, said that the theft of batteries from semi-trailer trucks that are passing by, carried out by a gang of thieves, is impacting the logistics distribution process in the port’s loading and unloading area. ‘In the Tanjung Priok Port Police area, the continuity of the logistics distribution process is very important,’ Pandu said in Jakarta on Tuesday. He urged the public, drivers, truck owners and logistics companies to treat the theft as a shared concern, noting that the perpetrators’ modus operandi is considered highly dangerous. ‘The losses are not merely material; there are other potential harms,’ he said. He explained that when a trailer truck is moving and its battery is stolen, it can endanger others. ‘If the battery is missing, the vehicle will stop briefly, transit, as the driver realises that the battery of the semi-trailer truck has gone. Therefore, the logistics distribution process is disrupted,’ he added. ‘If anyone needs assistance or has information about this incident, please contact 110,’ Pandu said. Earlier, the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Tanjung Priok Port Police arrested a battery-theft syndicate of semi-trailer trucks operating in the area, causing concern among residents. ‘We arrested two perpetrators who cooperated to steal batteries from operating trucks on the road. Both are part of a syndicate that had repeatedly carried out these dangerous acts,’ said AKP Ngurah Made Pandu Prabawa, head of the Criminal Investigation Unit, in Jakarta on Monday night (18 May). He stressed that the actions of the two perpetrators are very dangerous because they can cause accidents as large trucks lose their electricity power while passing along the road to Tanjung Priok Port. He noted that this condition can also affect the flow of logistics traffic entering and leaving the port area.
