The Plenary Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) has approved Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto as the new Chief of the Indonesian National Police, replacing Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

The meeting was convened after Commission III of the DPR conducted a fit and proper test to approve Suyudi as the sole candidate for the National Police Chief position. The suitability test for the current head of the National Narcotics Board was brief, lasting approximately 30 minutes.

“Next, we request approval for the appointment of Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto as the National Police Chief. Is this approved?” asked the Speaker of the House, Puan Maharani, to the members present at the meeting.

“Approved,” replied the meeting participants.

Notably, the process for the change in National Police Chief has proceeded rapidly. It all began with a letter from President Prabowo Subianto to the DPR yesterday.

“The DPR RI has received a presidential letter from President Prabowo, Number R57/Pres/09/2026, dated 30 September 2026, regarding the proposal for dismissal from the position of National Police Chief and appointment to the position of National Police Chief,” stated Habiburokman.

As a follow-up, he noted, the DPR had held a meeting within the Consultative Body and decided to conduct a fit and proper test for Suyudi this morning.

“We wish to hear the vision, mission, and key points to be presented by the National Police Chief candidate during today’s event. There is not much time, at most 10 minutes. We invite Mr Suyudi,” said Habiburokman.

After listening to Suyudi’s presentation, Commission III of the DPR subsequently approved Suyudi’s candidacy, followed by approval from the members of the DPR during the plenary session.

Profile of Suyudi Ario Seto

Suyudi was born in Pandeglang, Banten, on 14 July 1973. He is a graduate of the Police Academy (Akpol) class of 1994, later continuing his studies through the Police Science Higher Education (PTIK) in 2003 and the Police High Staff and Leadership School (Sespimti) Polri in 2018.

Throughout his 32-year career, Suyudi has served extensively in the criminal investigation field. He has held positions such as Unit II Head of Mobile Reserse (Resmob) at the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Metro Pasar Minggu Police Chief, and Head of Criminal Investigation at the South Jakarta Metro Police.

His experience in this field grew when he was entrusted to lead the Violent Crime (Jatanras) unit of the Metro Jaya Regional Police. Subsequently, Suyudi also served as the Head of Criminal Investigation at the Tangerang Kota Metro Police and West Jakarta Metro Police, as well as the Head of Mobile Reserse at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri).

Additionally, Suyudi was entrusted with regional managerial duties as the Metro Tanah Abang Police Chief. He then proceeded to several regional police chief positions, including Police Chief of Majalengka, Police Chief of Bogor, and Police Chief of Central Jakarta Metro.

Suyudi’s career advancement continued to the regional police level. In 2023, he was appointed Deputy Chief of the Metro Jaya Regional Police. A year later, he became the Chief of the Banten Regional Police.

The next turning point in Suyudi’s career occurred on 25 August 2025, when he was appointed by Prabowo as the head of the National Narcotics Board (BNN) as part of an assignment outside the police structure. Consequently, Suyudi officially attained the rank of three-star General.
