JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — A video recording a group of men dressed in black forcibly intercepting a car on Daan Mogot Road, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, went viral on social media. The action, deemed aggressive, was later identified as being carried out by police officers following a report of a suspected drug transaction. The police have explained the chronology of the incident and the reasons why the car was ultimately released without a search. A verbal altercation occurred between the two parties, leading the car owner to record and viralise the event. It was later discovered that the group consisted of police officers from Polsek Grogol Petamburan, who were conducting an operation to trace narcotics distribution crimes. So, what is the actual chronology, and why was the car eventually released without being searched? The driver claimed to have felt followed by a group of men since being in front of the Casa Jardin complex, before being intercepted in the Pesing area, right under the flyover. The six men, using three motorcycles, identified themselves as police from the West Jakarta Metro Police Resort. They even showed their member identification cards (KTA). “Around 3:30 PM WIB, my car was suddenly intercepted by three motorcycles and six people claiming to be police, shouting for me to open the car door and accusing me of picking up drugs from the Cengkareng area,” wrote the uploader in the video’s caption. In a panic, the driver opened the door, and one man then forced his way in and sat in the back seat, shouting for the car to be pulled over immediately. The situation only calmed down when the video recorder called an acquaintance working in the Criminal Investigation Unit of the West Jakarta Metro Police Resort, prompting the men to immediately leave the scene. “So, the incident yesterday was indeed from our personnel, receiving a report from the public suspecting a drug transaction,” explained Reza when contacted by Kompas.com on Monday (20/4/2026). According to him, the car had been on the surveillance radar since entering the Cengkareng area in West Jakarta. Despite intercepting and forcing entry into the car, the police ultimately released the vehicle.
