The Story Behind MAB and Solarky’s Sun V Production Collaboration
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - MAB has launched the Solarky Sun V electric vehicle. This micro SUV is unique as it is equipped with both a battery and solar panels on the roof.
The project emerged from a collaboration initiated in late 2025 between MAB, Solarky, and PT Fortuna Ventura Investindo.
Under the partnership, MAB serves as the local assembler, Solarky provides the technology, and Fortuna Ventura Investindo acts as the official distributor in Indonesia.
“Initially, we were open to any potential partner. Coincidentally, they were looking for an Indonesian partner to assemble the vehicle,” Rofiqi told Kompas.com last week.
According to him, Solarky began exploring communication with MAB after learning about its production facilities in Demak, Central Java.
“They also noted Indonesia’s high CBU tax rates,” Rofiqi said.
“They had already heard of MAB, so we initiated discussions. We also assessed whether our facilities in Indonesia were sufficient to assemble these models,” he said.
“We couldn’t just accept orders haphazardly. We reviewed the process and found it wasn’t overly complex. After checking with our R&D team and confirming operational readiness,” he added.
After several rounds of discussions and evaluations, the two companies formally signed the partnership last year.
PT Mobil Anak Bangsa (MAB) is a national automotive company focused on developing electric vehicles.
The company produces various electrified vehicles, including electric buses, trucks, and passenger cars for the domestic market.
