The Significance of Tasyrik Days
Tasyrik days fall on the 11th, 12th, and 13th of Dhu al-Hijjah, occurring immediately after Eid al-Adha, which is observed on the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah. These days are considered among the most sacred times.
This year, Eid al-Adha 1447 AH falls on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, making Tasyrik days fall on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 28-30 May 2026.
Quoting from Muhammad Abduh Tuasikal’s book ‘Amalan Awal Dzulhijjah Hingga Hari Tasyrik’, there are various religious proofs regarding the virtues of Eid al-Adha and Tasyrik days. For instance, a hadith narrated by Abu Dawud:
إنَّ أعظمَ الأيامِ عندَ اللهِ -تباركَ وتعالى- يومُ النحرِ ثمَّ يومُ القَّرِّ
‘The most significant days in the sight of Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, are the Day of Sacrifice (Eid al-Adha) followed by the Day of Rest (Tasyrik)’ (Sunan Abu Dawud).
Tasyrik is referred to as ‘yaumul qorr’ because pilgrims remain in Mina during this period.
The first Tasyrik day is the most virtuous, followed by the subsequent days, according to Latha’if Al-Ma’arif by Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali.
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stated that Eid al-Adha and the three Tasyrik days are festive occasions, encouraging Muslims to rejoice and partake in food.
The Prophet said:
أيام التشريق أيام أكل وشرب
‘Tasyrik days are days of eating and drinking’ (Sahih Muslim).
