The scouts should be revived

From Warta Kota

The recent brutal gang fights among students in the Greater Jakarta area have claimed a huge number of lives, while the police seem to be at a loss as to how to deal with the problem.

Wielding knives, some students also rob passengers on the buses.

Admittedly, it will not be easy to tackle these problems. A comprehensive solution is really required here, though it might take a long time to implement.

One of the activities suggested is the revival of Pramuka (the Indonesian scouts movement). If the government made this compulsory in every school, such brutal fighting and other negative behavior might be reduced, as Pramuka activities exert a positive influence.

Years ago one could easily find students in Pramuka uniforms helping out everywhere, such as during fires, traffic jams, floods etc.

Today such positive scenes are only memories of yesterday. Will they ever return?
