The Scenario Used by KPK Official and His Father to Extort Pemalang Regent Revealed
The Corruption Eradability Commission (KPK) has exposed the modus operandi of an alleged extortion attempt carried out by a police officer stationed at the KPK, Setya Budi Dias, alongside his father, Lilik Budi Suprianto, against the Regent of Pemalang, Anom Widiyantoro.
Acting Director of KPK Investigations, Achmad Taufik Husein, explained that the action began when Lilik met Anom, who was accompanied by his trusted aide, Mohamad Haris, also known as Gus Haris. During the meeting, Lilik used his son’s position within the KPK to leak information regarding ongoing case handling in the Pemalang Regency.
Taufik revealed that Lilik was able to access the confidential investigation details in Pemalang because Setya, who serves as an administrative staff member at the KPK, leaked the information to his father. This information subsequently became the leverage used by Lilik to approach the Regent for extortion purposes.
This situation led Anom to believe the information provided by Lilik was authentic. The Regent’s conviction grew after Lilik presented evidence of his family’s connection to the anti-corruption agency, along with relevant official documents.
In response to these findings, the KPK emphasised that the investigation will not stop with the Pemalang case. Investigators intend to explore whether this individual was involved in similar practices in other regions.
Previously, the KPK conducted a sting operation (OTT) on 28 July 2026, resulting in the arrest of 21 individuals, including Anom Widiyantoro. Of those arrested, 14 were taken to Jakarta for intensive interrogation, comprising five individuals from Jakarta, eight from Pemalang, and one from Purworejo. On 30 July 2026, Anom and three other suspects were officially presented to the public wearing the characteristic orange vests of KPK detainees.
The KPK has divided the case into two main clusters. The first cluster targets the alleged extortion carried out by Anom Widiyantoro and Gus Haris against the Pemalang Regency Government and private parties. The second cluster uncovers the alleged extortion against Anom, perpetrated by Selya Budi Dias and his father, Lilik Budi Suprianto.
