Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are one of the main pillars of the Indonesian economy. The existence of MSMEs not only plays a role in creating jobs but also serves as the primary driver of microeconomic activity in various regions. In dynamic economic conditions, MSMEs have proven to have a fairly good ability to survive compared to large-scale businesses. Therefore, the role of MSMEs is very important in supporting microeconomic growth and improving the welfare of the Indonesian people.

In the context of microeconomics, MSMEs act as business actors that produce goods and services to meet the needs of the community. MSME activities directly affect the level of production, consumption, income, and employment opportunities at the local and national levels.

MSMEs have several important roles in increasing microeconomic growth in Indonesia. Firstly, they create jobs. The MSME sector is capable of absorbing a large workforce. Many people obtain employment through small and medium enterprises, both as employees and business owners. With increased job opportunities, the unemployment rate can be reduced and people’s incomes can increase.

Secondly, they increase people’s income. Business activities run by MSMEs generate income for business owners and their workers. This income is then used to meet daily needs, thereby encouraging community consumption activity. This condition is one of the factors supporting microeconomic growth.

Thirdly, they encourage economic equality. MSMEs do not only develop in big cities but also in rural areas and remote regions. The existence of MSMEs helps equalise economic development because communities have the opportunity to develop businesses according to the potential of their respective regions.

Fourthly, they develop local potential. Many MSMEs utilise local resources and wisdom as superior products. Examples include traditional culinary businesses, handicrafts, agriculture, and other creative products. The development of local potential can increase economic added value while preserving regional culture.

Fifthly, they support national economic resilience. Experience shows that MSMEs have quite strong resilience during economic crises. Flexibility in business management allows MSMEs to adapt to changing market conditions so they can continue to carry out economic activities.

Despite their significant role, MSMEs still face various challenges, including limited business capital, low quality of human resources, limited market access, and increasingly fierce competition. In addition, some MSMEs still face obstacles in financial management and product development.

To increase the contribution of MSMEs to the microeconomy, support from various parties is needed. The government can provide easier access to financing, entrepreneurship training, and business mentoring. Meanwhile, MSME actors need to continuously improve product quality, service, and management skills to compete sustainably.

In conclusion, MSMEs have a very important role in increasing microeconomic growth in Indonesia. Through job creation, increasing people’s income, economic equality, developing local potential, and supporting national economic resilience, MSMEs are one of the main drivers of the Indonesian economy. Therefore, the development of MSMEs needs to be continuously encouraged so that their contribution to economic growth and public welfare increases.
