“ADAS features in modern vehicles greatly help improve safety and comfort during long-distance travel such as mudik,” Iwan told Kompas.com recently.

“This technology works as an assistance system for drivers, for example through features such as adaptive cruise control (ACC) which helps maintain distance from the vehicle in front, lane-keeping assist which helps keep the vehicle in its lane, and automatic emergency braking which can help reduce the risk of collision,” he continued.

According to him, the presence of such technology can also help reduce driver fatigue when having to undertake long journeys.

However, Iwan reminded that ADAS still only functions as an assistance system and does not replace the driver’s role.

“However, it is important to understand that ADAS is merely an assistance system, not a replacement for the driver. Drivers must still remain focused, maintain control of the vehicle, pay attention to road conditions, and ensure the vehicle is in prime condition before departing for mudik,” he said.

He emphasised that technology can indeed help improve driving safety, but driver vigilance remains the most important factor on the road.

“So technology can help, but driver alertness remains a key factor in road safety,” Iwan said.
