The rising cost of transportation
The rising cost of transportation
The government is planning to increase the economy class fares
of four-wheeled vehicles by between 49.4 percent and 72 percent
beginning in September.
Given the present situation, with its load of uncertainties,
the interests of all involved parties should, of course, be
carefully considered. Certainly both the public and the public
transportation operators are agreed that there is a need for a
public transportation system that is cheap, safe and comfortable.
The transportation company managers, on the other hand, must
calculate their operating costs against their investments in
order to guarantee the survival of their companies.
So far, the government has acted fairly enough by involving
the public, represented by the Indonesian Consumers Foundation,
in the process. Nevertheless, it must be realized that it is not
always possible to satisfy everybody.
