JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – After trying the Suzuki Satria Pro for a few days as a daily ride, I immediately felt that this motorcycle has a character that is now starting to become rare on the roads.

In the midst of the dominance of practical scooters, the Satria Pro offers a much more “lively” riding sensation.

There is a sense of satisfaction when shifting gears, playing with the clutch, listening to the engine roar at high revs, and feeling the truly aggressive acceleration as the RPM starts to rise.

Whether it’s the 2-stroke Satria, the carburetted Satria FU, or the early fuel-injected Satria, there is always an aura of a fast motorcycle attached to it.

Now, Suzuki seems to be trying to bring that feeling back, but wrapped in modern features such as keyless ignition, a digital instrument panel, smartphone connectivity, and even an assist slipper clutch.

The engine character is very different compared to popular scooters like the Yamaha Aerox or Honda Vario. The acceleration is very aggressive. The power delivery from the engine to the wheels may be one of the best in the 150cc class.

Even for a daily commuter motorcycle, the performance might feel excessive. I tried it on a short track of about 1 km, and in a short time, this motorcycle could reach 120 km/h in fifth gear. If the road is longer, exceeding 140 km/h would clearly not be difficult.

The top end of the engine is very strong and the gear ratios are tight, so the sensation of shifting gears feels sporty. However, when used in stop-and-go traffic, the engine character can sometimes be annoying.

At low revs, the torque feels small. When the RPM is still low, the motorcycle feels a bit sluggish. So if I want to quickly move through traffic, I have to frequently use the clutch and downshift to keep the RPM high.

On one hand, this is what makes it fun, because the rider is truly invited to “interact” with the motorcycle. But on the other hand, for heavy daily use, it will certainly be more tiring than a scooter.
