The rich must love the rupiah too
The rich must love the rupiah too
From Warta Ekonomi
I was touched when I saw/read that the Love Rupiah Drive had
been participated in not only by ministers but also by governors
and regional officials. They all demonstrated their love for this
nation by selling their U.S. dollars (exchanging them for
rupiah). If the public at large follows suit, the exchange rate
of our rupiah against the dollar will surely strengthen again.
However, more importantly, business tycoons and other wealthy
people who keep their dollars in other countries should exchange
their dollars for rupiah. They must also realize that their
participation is badly needed now. They also have to prove that
they love Indonesia, in good times and bad.
It is not fair only to call on the "little" people to love the
rupiah. They love the rupiah because they have nothing but the
rupiah. Well-off people, who have huge amounts of money in
dollars, should be ashamed because these little people have put
up a good example by willingly exchanging their dollars with
rupiah and donating both cash and gold.
