The reemergence of tyranny
The reemergence of tyranny
Four top political party leaders are developing reverse logic
to avoid a deadlock in the forthcoming annual session of the
People's Consultative Assembly (MPR). Megawati Soekarnoputri,
Akbar Tandjung, Hamzah Haz and Amien Rais have agreed to avoid
voting during the annual meeting.
At first glance, the agreement reached by the four political
party leaders reflects a sense of solidarity among them and shows
the strength of their commitment.
But the agreement is dangerous to the emergence of fundamental
changes and will at least kill the spirit of democracy.
Differences in opinion is God's gift. That is why we must
defend it with all possible efforts. Democracy is against
uniformity as well as hegemony. Thus, differences should be
resolved in an elegant manner.
