The Quran Prohibits Wealth from Circulating Only Among a Few Rich and Powerful Individuals

One of the essential principles of Islamic economics is the prevention of wealth accumulation within a specific group. Therefore, the Quran teaches that wealth should continue to circulate throughout society so that the needs of the vulnerable can be met. This principle is reflected in Surah Al-Hasyr, Verse 7, which states that wealth must not only circulate among the wealthy. Through this approach, Islam strives to realise justice and social welfare.

‘Whatever spoils of war Allah has bestowed upon His Messenger from the people of the towns, is for Allah, His Messenger, his near relatives, the orphans, the needy, and the travellers, so that it may not circulate only between the rich among you. Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatever he forbids you, abstain from. And fear Allah. Verily, Allah is severe in His punishment.’ (QS Al-Hasyr, Verse 7)
