The question of nepotism
The question of nepotism
From Media Indonesia
Some political observers are of the opinion that nepotism is
stalking the legislative candidacy lineup at the moment (Morning
Coverage 6 of SCTV, Sept. 28). In the right sense of the word,
nepotism tends to favor, or act in favor of one's own kin where
jobs and positions are concerned.
It would seem that nepotism is still around in Indonesian
politics, affecting other fields like the economy, social fields,
culture, security and defense.
Nepotism would not be a real issue if it were kept in a small
family circle only. Much as in a soybean-cake business where
profits fall in the hands of one family alone.
Whether it is directly or indirectly supported by the people,
it makes an interesting topic.
Ironically, these nepotism practitioners would have their life
shadowed by a guilty conscience, forced upon then by an
increasingly more mature and advanced people.
A small sample can be observed from the democratization
process in South Korea. Such a process has become more attractive
to political observers of developing countries.
