From Media Indonesia
The Indonesian people are angered by Edy Tansil's notorious
escape from prison. He, who was sentenced to 20 years in jail for
corruption involving Rp 1.3 trillion, has committed at least four
sins:
* He pocketed a Rp 1.3 trillion loan from Bapindo.
* He bribed the team of judges during his trial (the bribery
case is still under investigation).
* He received special treatment in the Cipinang prison. His
cell was like a hotel room furnished with luxury goods. This
special treatment is contrary to "equality before law".
* He escaped spectacularly from Cipinang prison.
All these criminal acts occurred in spite of the strict
regulations being enforced by the country. I cannot help ask: How
could Edy Tansil so easily deceive government personnel? The
answer must be "money". Money works wonders.
Truly, our judicial institutions have been tarnished by the
unpopular acts of Edy Tansil. Edy Tansil's escape is really a
disaster. The President has issued an order to capture the
fugitive.
Many people have commented angrily on Tansil's brutality. Most
Indonesians, when asked, want the death punishment for Edy
Tansil.
