The Potential of the Economic Census to Shape Thousands of Decisions
The Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) is conducting the 2026 Economic Census (SE2026), a decennial effort to create a complete and detailed portrait of Indonesia’s business activities. The census, which is mandated by Law No. 16 of 1997 on Statistics, guarantees that all collected data is strictly confidential and used solely for statistical purposes, not for taxation. This nationwide data collection is the country’s only opportunity to comprehensively understand the true scale of its economy, identify where businesses are growing, determine which sectors need support, and pinpoint regions that are lagging behind. The results will serve as the foundation for thousands of government decisions, from infrastructure development and credit distribution to training programmes and investment priorities. The public is encouraged to welcome census officers and provide honest information, as the data will act as a bridge for future generations, helping to build a stronger economic ecosystem for aspiring entrepreneurs and communities across the nation.
