Amid rising fuel prices, some Indonesians are still hunting for used cars as an alternative option. Based on monitoring by CNBC Indonesia in the Blok M area of South Jakarta on Friday (27/6/2026), most people are targeting vehicles like the Toyota Avanza and Toyota Innova. One showroom attendant in the Blok M area, Irwan, observed a shift in consumer behaviour when purchasing used cars. Most buyers now prefer vehicles that can run on more affordable or subsidised fuel. Conversely, diesel vehicles such as the Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero, and Toyota Land Cruiser are currently less in demand. These vehicles consume non-subsidised fuel, the price of which is soaring. “The bottom line is that petrol cars are now much more sought after than diesel, with the sales decline currently around 40%-50%,” Irwan told CNBC Indonesia on Saturday (27/6/2026). He noted that the most sought-after cars are the Avanza and Innova, particularly models from 2020 onwards. Used Avanza models are priced around Rp 150 million and below, while the Innova is priced below Rp 300 million. Additionally, a car dealer manager in the Blok M area named Roni admitted that the 2015 Avanza is still widely hunted by Indonesians. Besides being fuel-efficient, its passenger capacity is also quite large. Roni sells the 2015 Avanza for around Rp 120 million per unit. Meanwhile, he has observed a price drop for the 2016 Innova due to its higher fuel consumption, resulting in a price tag of only around Rp 180 million. “The Innova, perhaps because it is a bit thirsty, has seen its price drop somewhat. The selling price of this Innova depends on the model year, so the prices vary,” he concluded.
