The Nation's Revival Begins with Honesty

Amid the acceleration of the global technological revolution, where artificial intelligence, big data, automation, and digital connectivity are transforming almost every aspect of how humans work, learn, and make decisions, Indonesia is actually facing a challenge far more fundamental than merely chasing economic growth or winning innovation competitions. The greatest challenge for the nation today lies in the ability to ensure that intellectual advancement progresses in tandem with moral maturity. In the 21st century, a country’s progress is no longer measured solely by economic growth, the influx of investments, infrastructure development, or the speed of digital transformation. Behind all these indicators, there is one foundation that determines the sustainability of development: integrity. A nation with superior human resources, advanced technology, and a modern government system can still experience decline if it loses public trust due to weak ethics in state administration. It is at this point that Indonesia is being tested. For years, the country has positioned education as a strategic national investment. This commitment is evident in the government’s consistent allocation of more than 20 percent of the state budget to education, as mandated by the constitution. In 2024, the national education budget is recorded at around Rp 665 trillion. This increase shows that the state understands that human development is a long-term investment that determines the nation’s future. This investment becomes even more crucial because Indonesia is enjoying a strategic momentum in the form of a demographic bonus. Based on projections from the Central Statistics Agency and the Ministry of National Development Planning, during the period 2020–2035, around 68–70 percent of Indonesia’s population will be of working age. This means that more than 190 million people are in the most productive phase of the economic and social life cycle. This is a major asset towards Golden Indonesia 2045. However, the history of many countries shows that a demographic bonus does not automatically turn into a bonus of progress.
