The national car and Japan
The national car and Japan
From Media Indonesia
Japan is still making a fuss of Indonesia's national car, one
of the efforts to realize nationalism in the automotive world.
It is only a matter of time before the government grants the
facilities to companies other than the Humpuss group. We should
fully support the policy which will lead to lower car prices
which are advantageous to our people.
In my opinion one of the characteristics of Japan in trade and
industry is to always play for time in the hope of generating
bigger opportunities for their own benefit. An example is the
support promised by the Japanese government to develop industries
in ASEAN, heralded in 1993 in an ASEAN ministerial meeting with
MITI in Singapore. It has not been realized to date.
I personally experienced the process when discussing with
Japan the technology transfer of water meters. I was compelled to
cancel the matter. What about bigger things? I trust that the
Japanese government will fulfill its promises. The question is,
when?
