The Mystery of the Firearm Used by Man in South Jakarta Suicide
A man with initials BA, aged 53, was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head in his residence in the Bintaro area of Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta. Police have classified the death as suicide. However, the source of the pistol remains unclear.
“This is still under investigation,” responded Pesanggrahan Police Chief Kompol Seala Syah Alam when questioned about the origin of the firearm on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
Police are also investigating airsoft weapons discovered at the crime scene. In addition to the Glock 17 pistol used in the suicide, officers found one Glock 17 airsoft gun with 4.5 mm calibre and one HK MP7 airsoft rifle with 4.5 mm calibre, along with their magazines and ammunition.
“This case remains under the handling of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Pesanggrahan Police to complete investigation documentation and conduct further enquiries,” he stated.
The victim was discovered dead in his home office on Jalan Deplu, Bintaro Village, Pesanggrahan District, South Jakarta, on Friday, 6 March at approximately 13:30 Western Indonesia Time. The incident was discovered by a domestic helper after hearing persistent barking from a dog in the vicinity of the house.
“The witness then checked the area surrounding the victim’s residence and from outside the victim’s room could see the victim’s legs inside the room,” he explained.
After Friday prayers, the domestic helper went to the victim’s room to ask about work. Upon opening the door, the helper found the victim already deceased with a gunshot wound.
Autopsy Results
Meanwhile, forensic doctor at the Indonesian Police Hospital in Kramat Jati, Dr Farah P Karouw, SpFM, disclosed the autopsy findings. Dr Farah stated the victim died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Dr Farah reported that the autopsy revealed gunshot wounds on two sides of the head. She also confirmed there were no other injuries besides these two wounds.
“The autopsy results showed one entry wound on the right temple, and one exit wound at the back of the head on the left side,” she stated.
The autopsy examination also revealed fractured skull bones reaching the skull base and brain tissue haemorrhage.
“From a medical perspective, we conclude the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head that caused skull fractures and brain tissue haemorrhage, resulting in extensive damage to brain tissue,” explained Dr Farah.
