The hostage situation involving a woman in the Sri Menanti area, Sungailiat, Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands, has concluded following a police rescue operation.

The rescue process was dramatic. Police had to confront the perpetrator, who was known to be a close acquaintance of the victim, and who resisted using a machete and carrying fuel.

Personnel from the Sungailiat Police Station, who arrived at the scene first, ensured the victim was successfully evacuated to a safe location. Subsequently, the police apprehended the man suspected to be the perpetrator.

Bangka Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Indra Feri Dalimunte, through the Bangka Police Public Relations Officer, IPTU Ariyanto, stated that officers issued stern warnings before the perpetrator was finally secured.

“The police issued stern warnings to the perpetrator, who was carrying a machete and Pertalite fuel, before he was successfully apprehended,” he said on Thursday, 17 September 2026.

According to Ariyanto, the victim’s safety was the police’s priority in handling the incident. Once the hostage was secured, officers proceeded to take action against the perpetrator and seized the items in his possession.

“We prioritise public safety in every handling of a criminal case,” he added.

The hostage situation came to light after police received a report from the public via the 110 emergency service. The report reached the duty officers at approximately 01:25 WIB on Thursday morning.

Police then moved to the location to manage the situation and ensure the victim’s safety.

The Bangka Police Chief emphasised that the rapid response to public reports is part of the police’s efforts to provide protection and service, especially when citizens face emergency conditions.

“The 110 service facility serves as a means for the community to obtain a rapid police response when facing emergency situations,” he said.

After the victim was rescued and the perpetrator apprehended, the case is being processed in accordance with applicable laws. Bangka Police also urged the public to immediately contact the 110 service if they become aware of or experience incidents requiring police assistance, particularly in emergency situations.
