Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa officially ended his term as Minister of Finance today, Monday (14/09/2026), after serving since 8 September 2025.

His position has been taken over by Suahasil Nazara, who has served as the Deputy Minister of Finance since the administration of President Joko Widodo. Suaharl was inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto as the Minister of Finance this afternoon at approximately 15:00 WIB.

This reshuffle moment was considered very sudden, as of 11:00 WIB, Purbaya was still attending a joint working meeting with Committee IV of the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI).

However, during the Q&A session, the meeting leader, Ahmad Nawardi, Chairman of Committee IV DPD, suddenly interrupted Purbaya’s response due to a telephone call from the Palace.

“I informed him earlier that there was a call, so please check, there is a call from the Palace, from the Minister of State Secretary,” Nawardi told CNBC Indonesia on Monday (14/09/2026).

“It was said that there was an important matter and he was summoned to the Palace by the Minister of State Secretary. But since Mr Purbaya was speaking and not holding his phone, we eventually ended the session and did not continue the meeting,” he stated.

Nawardi noted that since Purbaya arrived this morning as the Minister of Finance and partner to Committee IV DPD RI, there were no signs that he knew a reshuffle was imminent.

“He did not say anything; he was quite relaxed, he didn’t say anything to us and everything was normal at the time. If he had known he was being replaced, he wouldn’t have attended,” revealed Nawardi.

Nevertheless, Nawardi admitted to seeing indications of the change in the Finance Minister after Purbaya failed to attend several international forums recently, including the G20 and BRICS finance minister meetings.

He admitted to having questioned this with Purbaya, who replied that he had to remain in the country to attend several meetings with the House of Representatives (DPR).

“Mr Purbaya said there were meetings at the DPR. Because of those meetings, he could not attend, and he said someone had to ‘guard the nest’,” Nawardi concluded.
