The Moment Prananda Helped Megawati and Puan with Tahalul During Their Umrah Together
Indonesia’s fifth president and PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri performed the umrah pilgrimage at the Grand Mosque (Masjidil Haram) in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. A heartwarming moment took place during the pilgrimage.
Megawati and her family performed the umrah on Saturday afternoon, 14 February local time. The PDIP chairwoman was accompanied by her son and daughter—M Prananda Prabowo along with his wife Nancy Prananda, and House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani.
Also in attendance were the Indonesian Consul General in Jeddah Yusron B Ambary, PDIP Central Board Chairman for Foreign Affairs Ahmad Basarah, and Indonesia’s Ambassador to Tunisia Zuhairi Misrawi, who also serves as PDIP Central Board Chairman for Religious Affairs (non-active).

Megawati began the umrah by assuming the state of ihram at Tan’im Mosque. She then arrived at the Grand Mosque via the Royal Guest House entrance and performed the sunnah prayer before the Asr prayer.
Megawati and her family then commenced the umrah rituals under the guidance of Ustadz Muhammad Hafidz Makmun, while Gus Mis, as Zuhairi is affectionately known, led the prayers during the tawaf procession. Megawati and her two children offered prayers for their family and the Indonesian nation.
The tawaf proceeded solemnly. The umrah rituals then continued with sa’i and concluded with tahalul, or the cutting of hair. Prananda first had his hair cut by the umrah guide, Ustadz Muhammad Hafidz Makmun. Prananda then cut the hair of his mother Megawati, his sister Puan, and his wife Nancy Prananda.
“Please cut the hair at the back,” said Puan to Prananda with a smile.
Megawati helped lift Puan’s headscarf during the process. Afterward, Prananda cut his wife’s hair. Puan then kissed and embraced her mother, followed by Prananda and Nancy Prananda who did the same. Megawati beamed with joy.
After the umrah rituals were completed, Megawati posed for a photo together with her two children and daughter-in-law.
