The Moment Megawati and Family Perform Umrah to Welcome Ramadan

Indonesia’s fifth president and PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri performed the umrah pilgrimage with her family. From the hotel lobby, accompanied by her son and PDIP Central Board Chairman M. Prananda Prabowo and his wife Nancy Prananda, as well as her daughter and House of Representatives Speaker Puan Maharani, they boarded a vehicle to assume the state of ihram at Tan’im Mosque, also known as Aisyah Mosque, located approximately 7 km from the Grand Mosque (Masjidil Haram), on Saturday, 14 February 2026.

PDIP Central Board Chairman for Foreign Affairs Ahmad Basarah and Indonesia’s Ambassador to Tunisia Zuhairi Misrawi, who also serves as PDIP Central Board Chairman for Religious Affairs (non-active), were also part of the umrah entourage.

After assuming ihram, the entourage proceeded to the Royal Guest House as the entrance into the Grand Mosque to perform the Asr prayer before carrying out the umrah rituals.

Regarding the pilgrimage, Zuhairi Misrawi said that Megawati’s umrah with her family this year coincides with the period just ahead of the Ramadan fasting month, which will begin in three days.

“For that reason, this umrah is very meaningful and holds great significance in welcoming the holy month of Ramadan,” said Zuhairi.

“Ibu Megawati and her family will supplicate to God Almighty, asking for strength and wisdom in their struggle to build the beloved nation,” he added.

“At its culmination, during this year’s umrah, Megawati will offer special prayers for Bung Karno, Ibu Fatmawati, Taufiq Kiemas, Surindro Supjarso, the extended PDI Perjuangan family, and the Indonesian nation,” Zuhairi concluded.
