The Middle East's Lifeline is Drying Up: A Prophetic Warning and a Looming Catastrophe

The Middle East is facing its most terrifying ecological threat in modern history as the twin lifelines of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers begin to vanish. This river system, which gave birth to human civilisation thousands of years ago, is now predicted to dry up completely by 2040. The alarming phenomenon aligns with a warning delivered by the Prophet Muhammad 14 centuries ago regarding one of the signs of the end times. In a hadith narrated by Imam Muslim, the Prophet specifically stated: ‘The Hour will not come before the Euphrates dries up, unveiling a mountain of gold, for which people will fight and ninety-nine out of every hundred will be killed.’ Scientifically, the threat is no longer a myth. Official reports and international studies confirm that the water flow of the Euphrates-Tigris system, which cuts through Turkey, Syria, and Iraq, has nearly halved in just a few decades. Satellite data reveals the region has lost approximately 144 cubic kilometres of fresh water over the past ten years alone. The stakes are catastrophic. Historically known as Mesopotamia, the fertile land between the rivers is now turning to dust. The crisis directly endangers the lives of an estimated 60 million people who depend entirely on this water source for drinking, farming, and hydroelectric power. If the current rate of decline continues unchecked, the collapse of this ecosystem is projected not only to create a humanitarian catastrophe but also to spark new, violent geopolitical conflicts over access to the last remaining clean water.
