The Meaning of the Ramayana Reliefs at Prambanan Temple for Prabowo
President Prabowo Subianto stated that Candi Prambanan is not merely a historical structure but a symbol of the great Nusantara civilisation that upholds knowledge, art, spirituality, and humanity. He made the remarks during a press statement alongside Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the temple complex in Sleman, Yogyakarta, on Wednesday (8/7/2026). Prabowo noted that the Ramayana reliefs carved into the temple walls hold special significance, serving as a witness to the closeness of the civilisations of Indonesia and India. He expressed hope that the visit would further strengthen the friendship between the two nations, adding that culture acts as a bridge to unite people, enhance mutual understanding, and build trust for a shared future. The two leaders also inaugurated a 10-year restoration project for Candi Prambanan, set to run from 2026 to 2036.
