The Meaning Behind the Iranian Ambassador's Visits to Indonesian National Figures

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, has been observed visiting several Indonesian national figures amid the ongoing escalation of tensions in the Middle East region. Kompas.com notes that the first figure visited by Boroujerdi was the 10th and 12th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla (JK), on Tuesday (3/3/2026). The meeting took place at JK’s residence on Jalan Brawijaya, South Jakarta. Boroujerdi also met JK for the second time on Wednesday (18/3/2026), this time at the Central Headquarters of the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI). The meeting with Megawati was held at her residence in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on 10 March 2026. Boroujerdi’s second meeting with Megawati took place on Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah, which fell on 21 March 2026, at the Central Executive Board (DPP) Office of PDI-Perjuangan. A week later, Boroujerdi travelled to Solo. The figure he visited this time was the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. This is because Boroujerdi did not directly target the centre of power, in this case, government authorities such as the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or directly to President Prabowo Subianto. According to him, Iran is seeking to confirm whether the Indonesian government is leaning more towards the United States and Israel due to its participation in the Board of Peace.
