The Machine Era in Spam Calls: The Ten Countries with the Most Spam in the World
Jakarta (ANTARA/ACN Newswire) - Indonesia is the country with the highest spam rate in the world. In 2025, Truecaller identified 79% of all unknown calls in Indonesia as spam or scams. Chile follows with 70%, up from 51% in just six months. Vietnam, Brazil, and India complete the top five. This data comes from Truecaller, a leading global platform for verifying contacts and blocking unwanted communications, with over 500 million users worldwide and more than 68 billion spam and scam calls identified in 2025.
Behind the ranking of each country lies a different story. In Indonesia and Mexico, more than 40% of identified spam calls come from financial institutions – banks, lenders, and loan services. In Chile, the dominant category is not sales or scams, but debt collection, which accounts for 38% of all spam, the highest concentration from a single category in any market globally. In Brazil and Nigeria, calls from telecom operators flood the situation, making it nearly impossible for users to distinguish genuine operator messages from scams. These findings indicate a broader global shift — as the scale of automated spam increases, trust in unknown calls continues to decline.
