The Last Digital Trace of Silmy Karim Before Disappearance and Search by KPK
The Deputy Minister of Immigration and Correctional Services, Silmy Karim, responded to a journalist’s message in Jakarta shortly before the Corruption Eraduation Commission (KPK) announced a search for him. “Good afternoon. It would be better if the Minister answers,” Silmy remarked when contacted in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Silmy made this statement when asked for a response regarding the KPK’s sting operation (OTT) involving several civil servants from the Ministry of Immigration and Correctional Services (Kemenimipas), including the Head of the West Jakarta Class I Non-TPI Immigration Office, Ronald Arman Abdullah.
The KPK previously confirmed that it had conducted its 11th sting operation in 2026 within the West Jakarta Immigration environment. “It is true, there was a sting operation at West Jakarta Immigration,” stated KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto to ANTARA in Jakarta on Wednesday morning.
In subsequent developments, the KPK stated that it had temporarily arrested dozens of people in the operation which began on Tuesday night, including Ronald Arman Abdullah. Furthermore, KPK teams continued field operations on Wednesday in Bali and West Java. The commission has also seized various pieces of evidence, including cars, motorcycles, US dollars, Singapore dollars, and gold bullion.
On a separate occasion, KPK Chairman Setyo Budiyanto stated that the sting operation is related to the processing of residence permits for foreign nationals (WNA), specifically Permanent Stay Permits (KITAP) and Limited Stay Permits (KITAS).
By Wednesday evening, KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo announced that the anti-corruption agency was actively searching for Silmy Karim’s whereabouts in connection with the operation. The KPK also secured two individuals in Bali related to suspected bribery involving immigration documents, which is believed to be linked to the West Jakarta Immigration case.
Despite the operation, all immigration services for the public continue to operate as usual. The Directorate General of Immigration has expressed respect for the KPK’s sting operation involving Ronald Arman Abdullah and has ensured that services remain normal.
